Forgetting Sarah Marshall (Cert 12)

 

We open with Peter (Jason Segel) getting dumped by TV star girlfriend Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell or Veronica Mars). As he is broken-hearted at the break-up he seeks support from his step-brother, Brian (BILL HADER), who encourages him to take a trip to get over his grief with a holiday. Peter considers his options and decides to travel to Hawaii... a favourite of Sarah's!

So as we would expect, when he gets to Hawaii and checks in to the hotel, he bumps in to her and the new boyfriend - the vain british superstar Aldous (Russell Brand)!

He tries all he can do to avoid the couple and get over them, but of course their paths constantly cross, normally with tearful (yet funny) results!

This is a return to form for JUDD APATOW ('The 40-Year-Old Virgin', 'Knocked Up') and SHAUNA ROBERTSON ('Knocked Up', 'Superbad') They would like to think this is the world's first romantic disaster comedy, I think a few other films already have that title, but it is a pretty good effort.

It has a few slow bits, but all in all its a great laugh and Russell Brand is very good. You can't help but feel for poor old Peter... even when he is sobbing his heart out!!! I wonder how much convincing he took to do all the naked scenes... and if they did any digital enhancing?
