Sunshine

The man behind Trainspotting, The Beach and 28 Days Later has moved on to the Science Fiction genre.

Sunshine's plot finds eight astronauts on a journey to the Sun in order to launch at massive bomb at it. The aim: to restart its dying reactions.

Of course that is interesting, but not overly exciting. Boyle is a thriller supremo, so he adds a few plot twists along the way. It turns out that this is the second attempt at restarting the sun and Icarus I vanished amongst suspicious circumstances seven years earlier.

The casts finds Cillian Murphy - no longer a blend of sexuality, but now a physicist. Chris Evans (I still have to stop myself thinking of the ginger minger) is the pilot and Hiroyuki Sanada as the Captain. Together with the other five they fight for their lives and the lives of the rest of us on a dark and cold earth!

Boyle does a good job of avoiding too many sentimental moments, just one at the beginning and a bit of a let down at the end. In fact, its the end that I have a problem!

98% of this film has you sat on the edge of your seat. Hiding behind your hands, hiding behind the chair in front! Biting your nails. I ages about a year through the film. But the last 2% finds you wondering what happened!

I'm not going to say why, because that may put you off. And beleive me, the other 98% is definately worth catching.

Its British and its great!
